There is a certain comfort in hopelessness. It allows us to guard our hearts from being wounded again. The gospel calls us to the dangerous work of believing that God might indeed be active in our world that in the midst of so much darkness there is still space for light.

I used to stay out of euthanasia debates because I wanted to listen well and allow for the possibility of ending unnecessary suffering in old age. I know speak up against euthanasia because however the policy is written, weve seen it unnecessarily target poor and/or disabled people for early death.

Because far too many NHS experts that I trust — people like @doctoroxford.bsky.social and @paulapeters19.bsky.social — oppose the #AssistedDyingBill, I cannot support it. Instead, it’s time for a referendum on social care, palliative care, and this issue as well, when it’s ready. #AssistUsToLive

For a country where patients from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are less likely to be referred for palliative care than those from areas with lower rates of social depravation (Buck, Webb etc al. 2022 - BMJ), we sure do...
