A cyclone with ~ 992 hPa pressure per offshore obs at noon their time. June low pressure records would be eclipsed at short POR sites if the cyclone came ashore at this intensity. For longer POR sites like Seattle and Portland, it would be close.

Something I plotted up showing how the Atlantic Hurricane Season shifts when taking the 3 mo ave RONI into account. El Niño conditions shift earlier in the tails. Neutral conditions shift later in the tails. La Niña conditions lead to even later shifts in the season, including the season peak.

Jangmi, beginning its extratropical transition, dropped Okinawa’s pressure to 980.4 hPa at 0900 UTC. This is shy of Kadena AFB’s record (POR since 1946) for June set 3 years ago, and marks the fourth time their sea level pressure dropped under 29” during June.

On this day in 1863, Cat. 2 Hurricane Amanda made landfall in N Florida, the only May hurricane known to hit the USA. There is a small window of no obs, which then it could have been a Cat. 3, but we conservatively declared it a Cat. 2. Paper available at journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...

December 2025 through February 2026 was the 2nd warmest winter on record for the Contiguous U.S. according to Prism climate data. The widespread record to near record warmth in the west easily outweighed the cool temps in the east. 🔥🔥🔥

It’s been 26 days since the snow/sleet. It remains in some areas shadowed from the sun and in piles, but it has become quite patchy. :)

Our snow/sleet fell 23 days ago. Temperatures rising into the 40s and 50s lately have aided the melt, but work continues.

The 5-day forecast for sea ice in the Bering Sea shows ice making it to St. Paul Island earlier than any date in the prior 27 years. It will then quickly retreat with a southerly flow. @alaskawx.bsky.social
