My first time on the front page of a newspaper was after a 10-hour shift firefighting. I was so dirty, my own mom didn’t recognize me. When I called her the next day she exclaimed, “That was YOU?!?” A story about the federal firings. 1/

The first bit of this video added a new bucket list item for me: Shadow picture at Solar noon on the winter solstice! We’re not likely to have enough sunlight for shadows on Sunday here in Ketchikan… but maybe! 🤞

NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇

We have a beaver near Ward Lake who has been very active in their snacking lately. It’s interesting to see how some trees and branches get a light treatment while others become a favorite for continued gnawing.

Experimenting with jam recipes from berries we picked this summer. Salal with Alaska blueberry is AMAZING 😋 I did a 1:1 ratio of blueberries to salal but didn’t measure how much sugar pectin etc. Hopeful I can duplicate the results because this jar isn’t going to last long.

Check out this crazy mosaic image of the auroral oval from space on the night of Nov 11-12! You an can see just how extended the oval was due to the impressive solar storm that impacted and delivered a G4 (Kp 9-) geomagnetic storm - the third strongest of solar cycle 25!

Sunday botany walk highlight #1: Bog cranberries! 🌱They shine like ruby jewels in the muskeg. 🌱Crisp texture and wonderful flavor. 🌱A delightful ratio of plant to fruit. If our blueberry bush adopted the same ratio, it would make berries the size of beach balls.
