What I have learned about the "metascientific field" these days is that the loudest voices are also the least nuanced, on both sides. Glad to see some more balanced voices as well, but its easy to overlook them when you are screamed at by folks with extreme positions.

I think these days, I consistently learn the most about new research by reading good dissertations. Nice perk of the job.

Okay #rstats folks and Bayesian enthusiasts. I want to fit monotonic splines in brms. I found forum posts from 2019-2021. You can fit them with scam, but the package doesn’t play well with the standard post-processing of mgcv. Has anyone figured out a way to get this done by now?

Replication crisis not as bad as feared? “Observed replication rates could have been predicted by issues with replication power alone…. predicted replication rate is almost identical to observed replication rates in experimental economics (60% vs. 61%) and experimental social science (54% vs. 57%).”

Updated Preprint: We added 5 high-profile psycholinguistic journals to the sample. Numbers stay the same and are now based on >85k statistical tests in >13k articles across 13 different experimental linguistic journals.
