We can use xG to compute post-hoc win-draw-loss probabilities. Our new blogpost shows MCMC's estimates of these probabilities are unstable, computing them exactly is faster than approximating them, and MCMC's runtime strongly depends on its implementation. dtai.cs.kuleuven.be/sports/blog/...

"Methodology and evaluation in sports analytics: challenges, approaches, and lessons learned." (Davis et al., 2024) One of my favourite papers so far this year, in part because it mentions face validity. I shared it in that other place a few months ago. Worth a shout here too.
