students: pls don't make heavy asks of faculty time/expertise for your dissertation if you cannot include them on your committee. Use your existing committee, drop unhelpful members, or ask someone with service commitment (DGS). Heavy asks can be disproportionate to untenured faculty, esp. WOC.

For those concerned about DNA ownership by corporations like 23andMe BUT do not understand impacts of funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health: Absent NIH funds, researchers will have to seek industry $$ to conduct research. Even more of your genomic data will be co-opted by corporations.
