After "inviting" vaccine scientist Peter Hotez in a tweet, summit organizer Jay Bhattacharya retweeted a bunch of weird conspiracy theories about Hotez + Covid vaccines & targetting him for abuse. From this statement, it appears Stanford's President would blame *Hotez* for refusing to participate.

The new President of Stanford promised to protect academic freedom. I wrote about how he has broken that promise by giving opening remarks at a conference featuring speakers who led attacks on researchers at Stanford, particularly the Stanford Internet Observatory. stanforddaily.com/2024/10/03/f...

Shingles is a reactivation of the virus that causes chickenpox. It's a herpes family virus so never leaves your body. The vaccine helps to strengthen your immune response to it so it keeps the virus in check. The vaccine doesn't make it worse; it does the opposite.

When people talk about pandemic school closures, the experts they cite for evidence of harm also *always* say: “Here are interventions to recoup some learning. If we don’t do these things like NOW the loss will become permanent.” But that doesn’t get RTs so it doesn’t get said.

There’s a super popular substack newsletter that mines obituaries for random deaths then sends them out en masse, with their personal photos… to blame the covid vaccine. Yes: still happening in 2023.

Out of morbid curiosity, I signed up for the Epoch Times Health newsletter. And I’m not *at all* exaggerating when I say half of their emails are about the dangers of vaccines.

Right before COVID we had norovirus sweep thru our house. Seemed inevitable w 6 people. Misery. Last winter one of us got it, so I crammed prevention advice & texted the family group chat. We stopped anyone else from getting sick! Like woah: preventative measures actually work.

“Pain is always new to the sufferer, but loses its originality for those around him. Everyone will get used to it except me.” A 100+ year old quote that still perfectly summarizes why we rarely act to find real treatments for some especially terrible illnesses (like long COVID).

This is misleading. Throat cancer is caused by a virus, HPV. ANY kind of sex can transmit this virus and thus cause cancer. And it’s such a common virus that 80%+ of us get it. The best way to reduce these risks is **not** to stop having sex. It’s to get the HPV vaccine.

To push back on revisionism: COVID was a leading cause of death for all age groups in the US in 2021. That doesn’t mean it killed equal numbers. But that for all ages it was one of the biggest *relative* risks to life. We’ve previously done a lot to mitigate much smaller risks.

One of the most heartbreaking things in life is when you’re arguing with a family member and suddenly realize their talking points are coming straight from what they saw on Twitter.

I can give you facts about the flu vaccine, but I honestly just get mine because I know a bad flu is probably the worst I’d feel all year. I really, really love not experiencing that! And will try to prevent it even if it won’t kill me.

After 3 years of polarized public health, I hope people realize that prevention isn’t either-or. Simple measures are worthwhile too. One less bad cold and maybe a slightly lower chance of getting flu or COVID is worthwhile. And that’s achievable without a “lockdown” or whatever.
