kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

Yeah, it has long been the case that adult-oriented businesses have to be careful or risk the wrath of everyone from prosecutors to payment-processing companies, but "prominent social media company owned by world's richest person swiftly became world's largest CSAM producer" produces no reaction.

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. Itās a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators canāt control. Thereās no one solution to this, because the problem isnāt just technological. Itās cultural. Itās misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

It's also wild that this hasn't ended Trump's presidency immediately. We used to be a serious country, where things mattered. Or maybe we never were, & it's just the mask being fully ripped off. Hard to tell, frankly. Observationally equivalent.

Anyway, big congrats to Nobel Peace Laureate Maria Corina Machado for getting the war she practically begged for ā only for it to blow up spectacularly in her face. And of course, to presidenta-por-vida Rodriguez for gaining a powerful new patron and everything else she ever could have wanted

More broadly, this is a depressing death knell to the idea ā already on life support ā that U.S. foreign policy cares *at all* about democracy and human rights, in Latin America or elsewhere. Now we love dictatorships, just so long as they're willing to give us a cut of the proceeds.

Parsing Trump, Rubio, and Hegseth statements, it sounds a lot like "we're going to drop all demands for democracy/elections, recognize Rodriguez in perpetuity, drop all sanctions, send lots of investment and technical assistance, and buy any oil Venezuela wants to sell."

All of which is to say, there's a good chance that the events of the last 16 hours basically change *nothing* about autocracy in Venezuela. There's a good chance Delcy simply inherits the consolidated dictatorship, just like Maduro did before her.

Itās also time to start wondering if some of these reporters are a little cooked by the bots themselves. Reporters arenāt inured to chatbot psychosis. In fact, some of them may have drank too much of the kool aid from sources selling them stuff. Weāre in a new world of stupid. Adjust your credulity.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they āknowā things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It wonāt age well.

An AI chatbot does not have PERSONHOOD. It has no agency. It cannot meaningfully apologise. It cannot speak on behalf of another. It cannot speak for itself; it has no self. Stop asking it for quotes for articles. Stop printing its quotes.
