I really like pairing high tech weapons with low tech weapons that cover each other's weaknesses, if I have a plasma rifle as my primary I'll take a machine pistol as a secondary for example. Target seeking smart gun as my pistol? Pump action shotgun as my main. Laser carbine? Magnum revolver.
