Almost everything "illegal" I do on a bike is a direct result of the roads being designed for cars only. No bike lane on a busy road? Ride on the sidewalk. Stop signs on every block slowing your momentum? Treat them as yield signs. No way to make a left turn? Use the crosswalk to set up the left.
