I’ve often mused that ‘hiraeth’, like ‘cwtch’, needs to move into the English language not in an act of saesneg theft, but to better represent the Welsh tongue in the wider UK. The word has a melancholic beauty of longing without any English equivalent - and English is stubborn to ignore it.

Coincidentally, I looked this up a couple of nights ago as the artist Ithell Colquhoun refers to it in her book The Living Stones, about her time in Cornwall. Dragonflies are said to follow snakes and look after them by stitching their wounds. She also refers to their shared sinuousness.
