The new Mystic Lake Amphitheater opened for business tonight. This isn't really a concert review as much as a venue review. And my main takeaway is that the lawn is (rightfully) going to be very popular. Gift link:

Review: The general admission lawn is a winner at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater
“The metro has needed a venue like this for decades,” Ross Raihala writes, “as it will attract some acts that otherwise wouldn’t perform here.”

I spent about 90 minutes at Twin Cities Jazz Fest and that was still enough to be life-affirming. It was 90 minutes blissfully tuned out of world affairs, watching strangers of all ages and races claiming their joy and dancing together on a perfect summer day. 10/10, no notes.

I’m a big fan of how City of St. Paul will waste money sending me physical mail about amplified noise event I can’t even hear, but city workers will literally be cutting sidewalk at 7am on a holiday morning.

Oh, WaniKani: "Your clan is where you get your name. But not your given name, your family name. That's why people have names that mean "in a rice paddy" and "near the ferry crossing." The location of your clan determined your surname! Hope your ancestors didn't live on "Poo Lake" or something."
