This was always the problem with this "institutional neutrality" stuff. Academics now have to argue that maybe, it might be a good thing not to stay neutral when democracy is on the line...

They're continuing the (incorrect) claim that progressive college students, trans people, "woke" ideology, etc, is a threat to freedom of speech and scientific freedom while actual threats to science from the current far-right US administration are happening at an unprecedented scale.

Anyone who has considered diversity and implemented it knows it improves quality: syllabi with diverse and inclusive reading lists are stronger, diverse teams perform better, in admissions it is students w a marginalized background that often go far. We are sliding into a monotonous mediocrity.
