Important. You can plant a load of seed to regenerate facsimile species rich grassland but you don't get back the full ecosystem with all its invertebrates for a very long time - 75yrs here. But this assumes all the needed invertebrates have somewhere nearby to come back from!

I would imagine there are many more like these that are eyeing up other alternatives. There will be an ripple effect for the entire world to choose something else than starlink.

Is this news? It has always be the big mammals, the butterflies and the orchids that get the attention. The exception seems to be the UK SSSI designation, which perhaps because it is habitat-oriented does capture e,.g. wax-cap fungi. Of course that doesn't mean money.
