On the last day of my trip, on my way to the airport I was barely able to meet the person who runs the Tomcat's Big Adventure twitter account (and the manager of the IP?). He reached out days before, offering to give me some posters as a gift. A good opportunity to switch out my posters!😊

I went to this because Nobuyuki Ohnishi (lithographs for the OP and ED of Royal Space Force) was one of the artists whose work was displayed. He also showed up in person, so I along with some other Japanese friends got to chat with him. (Well, they did most of the chatting and I mostly listened)

I got to meet Akase-sensei in person and there I talked to her and her non-anime fan acquaintance for 2+ hours on a variety of topics, in particular 80s anime. She's apparently around my age too and also into older anime. Got to talk about Oshii, Patlabor, Dezaki, Gamba, Aim for the Ace, and more...

If anyone reading this happens to be near or in Tokyo, and happens to be a fan of Yuriko Akase (Sazan & Comet Girl, Nightmare Busters), then I highly recommend checking the exhibit out. Or even if you're not familiar with her work, check it out anyway because her art work is really great.

Fresh off the 10-min Osamu Dezaki retrospective. Most of the information is well covered, but the big things for me are the on-screen text indicating name and year of past shows interviewing him, and also a brief excerpt of his rental manga work. It's difficult to track these down.

Unfortunately the timing of my trip is bad in that a bunch of exhibits I would've gone to either ended the day before I arrive, or start the day after I leave. Silver lining is that I just found out a brief 10-min Osamu Dezaki retrospective will be airing on NHK General while I'm here.

If you’re in Los Angeles this weekend, I won’t be tabling at Brain Dead’s Fantasy Fest (can’t be two places at once) but they have a big stack of my books that’ll be on sale. Plus a lot of other cool vendors and events.

I noticed way too late, on the Daicon IV Travelogue article, someone had asked: "What’s the bottomless Daikon/radish game?" I did previously try (and fail) to answer this myself when I originally translated this. I took a look again and found the details. See here:

The new Minky Momo OVA will feature Momo getting a smartphone for her 12th birthday, and her doubts about a shady, unknown app emphasizing the "dream" of craving approval from others and chasing after numbers. I almost wanna say I called it 3+ years ago.
