I finished the Three Body Problem and I'm trying to collect my thoughts. Reading it as a physicist, having good science realism in the story for most of it (dotted with the odd mistake) and then throwing out any pretence of realism was very jarring. /1

This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write." A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption. B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

Naming characters and places in your book is tough, but remember, there's a hockey player named Ivan Ivan and a province named Newfoundland. You don't need to overthink it.
