I remember John Fox as one of the most kind R Foundation #rstats members (ca. 2006-2023) giving wise and kind words often. The 1-1 interview he held with several of us, resulting in a useR!2008 pres and the article journal.r-project.org/articles/RJ-... It is sad to miss him. May he rest in peace!

For other #RStats pkg devs: don't forget to upgrade your old .Deprecated() warnings to .Defunct() errors. I just grep:ed my code and found overdue ones in 'progressr' & 'listenv'. With .Defunct() in place, I'm one step closer to be able completely remove two fcns from these packages 🧹

Can you think of an #rstats option that is okay for package to set, e.g. when loaded? The more I think about it, the more I think it's only the end-user who should be able to change an R option. I'm trying to come up with a counter example, where it's safe for a package to do it, but I can't

Please don't write software that hijacks all CPU cores by default. Here's a shared compute server with 48 cores where the #java, #python and #MATLAB processes defaults to using all the cores, bringing this machine to a full stall. The users are not to be blamed here #Linux #parallel #rstats
