I get why we have the “shitty first draft” language (anxiety & pressure reduction, great), but oh how I hate it. What about a tender first draft. What about a fresh first draft. Dewy. Just spun. A spiderweb. A draft of sunlight. A pile of leaves. You rake your fingers through them and they rustle.

Interesting at the #SCBWI state of children’s publishing, they reported that younger MG is doing well, with protagonists ages 9–10. Like books that could even be crossovers with the chapter book market. #kidlitchat

Add your email address to your manuscript title page so if an agent or publisher likes what they’re reading they don’t have to search for your original contact to reach out to you. (Some of them download submissions to read via kindle.)
