Moments of pure visual poetry + an emotional story of grief, time, and the interconnected of things – how this one unremarkable life is a significant part of an incommunicable whole. 📽️

One of the great psychedelic masterpieces of world animation, SON OF THE WHITE MARE is a swirling, color-mad maelstrom of mythic monsters and Scythian heroes. Restored in 4K, SON OF THE WHITE MARE screens this weekend at brunch at Nitehawk Prospect Park in ANIMATION FOR ADULTS.

After rewatching Weapons this weekend, I still have the same opinion. Rewatching didn't help. Great premise, but it is poorly explored and executed. Also, I am done with Coen bro solo efforts. Yikes.

The cinematography in this French silent classic from 1930 is so fluid & sophisticated- a mix of German, American & Soviet styles- it makes it even more obvious that it is a skill (like editing) that has declined in modern filmmaking. It's on @criterionchannl.bsky.social until 8/31.

This felt like 3 different movies. And like a weird Planet of the Apes movie. Was waiting for the scene where they worship an atomic bomb at St Patrick's Cathedral. Nope. Meh.

1776 was the highlight of these rewatches. Crazy how underseen and underappreciated it is. Hysterical and very enjoyable, almost 3 hr movie version of the Broadway play.
