It's interesting that Mike Johnson is bringing up just war doctrine, because Trump's Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, is clearly and serially violating some of its most basic tenets:

Truly remarkable how many people have told the Pope, in some way or another, to "shut up and dribble." Or corrected him on the Bible, despite their thin education on theology. Or told him to stay out of US affairs, despite him being a US citizen. The hubris is amazing.

This is excellent by Boyle. What CBO and others have pointed out is that millions of eligible claimants will lose vital health care coverage because of administrative burdens. By design! That is the purpose of the bill. It does not target fraud. It just weaponizes burdens against the public.

Important context here: The men were not pardoned. They filed suit to have their convictions thrown out. The DOJ would normally oppose this, as the original prosecutors. But to do that… they’d have to assert the men committed sedition… on behalf of Donald Trump. So instead, they just fold.

Always nice when tech CEOs reveal they have no idea what work is, much less how their own company functions. No amount of AI handwaving makes it feasible to have 6000 direct reports. What he's envisioning is 6000 people whose sole incentive is to manipulate the AI serving as their manager.

This is an existential crisis for American higher education, & it remains maddening, if not sadly predictable that there continues to be <exactly> no loud, collective public action by university chancellors & presidents to speak out against & try to reverse these policies (Olson 1965, Akerlof 1970).

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."

ICE detaining doctors is absurd. Let me explain something: foreign-trained doctors get trained and practice in places where American medical graduates often do not want to go. They are not taking jobs from anybody. They go to undesirable locations and take undesirable jobs.

If the government is detaining doctors who serve underserved communities, the only conclusion left is that it is willing to leave those communities without healthcare.
