When people perceive the Potential of a technology, they literally perceive it. They watch videos like this and they just mentally subtract all the jarring elements. They think this act of subtraction makes them visionary, and others just don't get it. They don't question their own assumptions.

This was great! Ageing is one of those topics where thinking about it even just a little bit and sharing experiences with others goes a long way to making us way more lucid about it. Last night, I practiced the "View from Above" philosophical exercise. I felt overwhelmed by the strangeness & immensity of space. This morning I did a couple of drawings to try to capture the visions I had. Reminiscent of a near death experience Plutarch attributes to a certain Thespesius of Soloi:

Little moon travelling alongside us for a while. Orbiting the sun just like we do. A lot of different objects are floating around us too. Space, like a desert, is an eventful place once you get to know it.

After yesterday's memorial for Helen de Cruz, I am left thinking about what we are all trying to articulate about their admirable ethos: the way they encouraged us to pursue the passions, hobbies, & projects that really interest us. In this tribute, Richard Pettigrew does a good job expressing this:

There was a jewelry heist at the Louvre, and it's amazing to me that so many movies & shows have pre-shaped the intuitions that I will feel about this event. Even though all those intuitions must be wrong. How differently I feel about stealing a painting vs jewelry. About "cool & classy" crime, etc.

Found on my walk, a philosophical dispute in the form of an iconic graffito that stood the test of time and was never erased. The original says "God is dead", but a modification in red, like a stern teacher's correction, changes it to say "God is there".

Walking in my city, to behold explosions of colours. For instance, a tree with leaves of fire: yellow, orange, and red. And especially today, after the rain, so many raindrops glittered with sunlight: falling off of trees, or adorning the wet pavement or the tips of blades of grass.

There are several things like that, that make the Jedis look like they have lost their way as an institution. And I constantly go back and forth between thinking this was done on purpose, and thinking this was not purposeful. It's not a theme that's well exploited, though there are hints of it.

I love watching a lecture on YouTube by some academic talking passionately about their area and then reading the positive comments below from people all over the world working all kinds of jobs watching these lectures on lunch breaks or when they get home from work.

Got some good writing done. And then, yet another explosion of colours today on my daily walk. Trees with red and yellow leaves like roaring fires. A magpie shining blue and green. A pigeon glittering purple. The great blooming, buzzing cosmos; like an embarrassment of beauties.
