It was my turn this morning on BBC Radio Scotland to bring ‘Thought for the Day’. We are on the precipice of the greatest avoidable human tragedy of our lifetimes. All of our actions matter.

What an absolute shambles. The very worst kind of policy making. Is it less worse? Perhaps. But what a shamefully low bar. In a just and compassionate society, we can do so much better than this. Social security is an investment in all of us. You and me.

NEW PROPOSAL The rumoured new proposal seems to be that the 4+ rule won’t count if you are an existing claimant but will count for new claimants. This would be a disaster and it is crucial MPs vote against the green paper and follow through on the ‘recommended amendment’. Why? 🧵1/2

The UK Govts welfare proposals will have a catastrophic impact on sick and disabled people if they go ahead. The impact for people in Scotland will be devastating. These reforms are not the solutions we need. They must be halted #WeDemandBetter

It’s hard to understand what it’s going to take to convey the devastation that this is going to cause. These proposals will have a catastrophic effect on sick and disabled people and their families. We cannot allow these to happen.

The UK Government’s proposals risk real and lasting harm to thousands across Scotland. Disabled people already experience the worst of poverty. We cannot allow this to get worse. There are other options here, other choices to be made.

Early start for BBC Radio Scotlands ‘Thought for the Day’. Though its way less of a chore to get up to that sunshine. The weather made me think about the juxtaposition between scarcity & abundance that’s all too visible in our world. Such a small few have so much. The chasm of inequality palpable.
