OTD 1865 ‘Dripping riot’ in Leeds Surgeon & Magistrate Henry Chorley charged his cook Eliza Stafford with theft of dripping (meat fat). She was in prison for a month. Supporters marched to Park Sq & a riot was violently suppressed. Other magistrates took a lenient view of those causing unrest.
