It’s funny (and sad) to reconstruct how some codebases ended up in their sorry state. A bad trade-off led to a future problem, that was worked around by another bad trade-off, that led to another future problem, that… A Ponzi scheme of technical debt.

After spending the day and the evening cleaning up “problematic” code, I dreamed that I was stuck doing Sisyphus’ work on a giant landfill planet. Even my subconscious has just given up.

I’m starting to think that the lonely operator is named after how I feel when I see it abused, and the shitty code this leads to.
