As the ocean warms, conditions become less habitable for corals in the tropics, but some higher latitude seas might become more conducive to coral reef formation. Coral larvae can drift over large distances by ocean currents, so it is possible for coral reefs to shift polewards. (5/16)

What's going on here? 1. In the 1980s/90s the beach was still very narrow (dark lines), affected by sand starvation caused by extension of the Tweed River breakwaters, completed in the 1960s. 2. By the 2000s (pink lines) the beach was much wider, fed by the Tweed River sand bypass completed in 2001.
