This story is well worth reading. Asylum hotel protestors decided to pack up and go after learning more about the refugees inside and discovering Sidmouth and Honiton Tories had been lying about who they were.

Wow Starmer finally drawing a line! "If you say or imply that people cannot be English or British because of the colour of their skin, that mixed-heritage families owe you an explanation... If you say that they should now be deported, then mark my words - we will fight you with everything we have".

Starmer is right to call out the "broken Britain" story. A lot needs fixing, but we risk convincing ourselves that our democracy is so corrupt, our institutions so broken & our future so hopeless that the only sane response is to burn it all down. That serves only the arsonists like Trump & Farage

Today's speech was easily the best Starmer has given. For the first time since the election, he told a compelling - & optimistic - story about what the government is trying to do; charged that story with moral purpose; & drew clear battle lines with the Right. A few quick thoughts & a challenge...

RIP Robert Redford. Charismatic, stylish and an eye for a great role. We’ve lost another icon of Hollywood’s New Wave. Just as talented as a director. And, in establishing the Sundance Film Festival, helped pave the way for a new generation of young independent filmmakers.

Labour governments have been hurt before when calling out racists. Starmer himself was attacked by the media last year for doing it after Southport. But fear of a repeat is nowhere near justification for silence. It’s just cowardice. Take the fight to the far-right. If you don’t, they win.

Keep thinking of arguments for why it would be completely insane to dump a prime minister with a huge majority just 14 months in, and also about how if he's not going to say a single word in opposition to the kind of shit we saw today then I no longer feel convinced by any of those arguments.

Charlie Kirk was not a “free speech activist” and any outlet that tells you he was is lying to you. He wanted unlimited freedom for himself and as little as possible for the people he hated, ie anyone who wasn’t a white male conservative. His values were trash

In hindsight, the idea that all politicians needed to do was deliver on their policies only, was the wrong lesson to learn from the post-Johnson Tories. Now Labour looks like it is incapable of creating a narrative or even basic communication.

Getting Cooper out of the Home Office is a huge plus. I am not sure she's going to set the world on fire as Foreign Secretary, though. But as Starmer does all the important stuff on that front it's not a big issue.

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell. Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass. That, right there, is the problem.

A big blow for Labour. Raynor is authentic and popular in an unpopular government. Hated the misogynistic campaign against her. It was a mistake by her but stepping down was probably the right thing. Hopefully she will be back.
