We were very glad to host the meeting of Clinical Psychology Professors this year. As always, we discussed issues related to teaching, research, clinical training. (1/4) Why is it so hard to quit smoking? Franziska Motka explored this question in her PhD at our department, completed on Oct 20, 2025. She investigated the psychological and neurobiological processes that keep chronic smoking going – and how they can be changed.

I'm excited to share a new preprint: In a novel experimental paradigm, we found evidence that stress induces a computational bias during alcohol-related decision-making in favor of alcohol, but this bias was only sometimes strong enough to overcome competing considerations (e.g., taste preferences).

After careful consideration, the FDA advisory comission voted today 9:2 that MDMA has *not* been shown to be effective for treating PTSD, given massive concerns around validity threats in this literature. They also voted 10:1 that MDMA benefits do *not* outweigh harms. 🧪 #PsychPsySky
