The US got into Afghanistan without a plan to ensure we won the post-war effort. We got into Iraq with less of a plan. Those were with a "competent" Republican Administration. What would make anyone believe that THIS Republican Administration would be better than those guys?

Since the 1980s, the Republicans have fully embraced Modern Monetary Theory in governing (as Cheney famously said, "Reagan taught us that deficits don't matter"). They just don't say that because they'd be attacked, and pretending to care about deficits is a useful cudgel against social programs.
