If only there were some kind of way to restrict the speed of vehicles on our roads couldn't smash through buildings and injure people. But it's impossible to think of such technology existing; no vehicle today has such a thing, right?

it really bothers me that the driver in this crash was arrested at the scene, but the driver of a crash where someone *was killed* 3 blocks away was not only not arrested, but wasn't even charged with anything until after a 6 month pressure campaign.

if this starts happening to any oversized SUV, maybe American culture will start to dislike them and demand smaller vehicles?

We can stop framing this is a hypothesis that has to be proven every 4 blocks in New York City. We know for a fact that safe infrastructure will lead to an increase in usage. So let's just cut through the NIMBY nonsense and build out a network of safe, protected lanes.

Thinking about how GDP grows about 3% per year, but the population only grows 1% or so per year (globally). Splitting the difference, we should all be able to have 1% more abundance in exchange for 1% less work - year over year. Things should be getting better, not worse. That’s what I’m saying.

Evan's almost-win scared the legislature enough to implement some transparency, like public committee votes. The result: a bill rolling back MA climate action stalled out, despite the support of the House Speaker, because publicly voting for it was embarrassing. A win would be even more impactful!

A local example: the people fighting bike lanes on Broadway kept saying they were for "commuters". I.e. the high school students and CRLS staff, who bike in massive numbers, are not _real_ Cambridge residents and therefore it's OK for them to be injured. If you're not in a car, you're not real.

* Tolling roads through parks. DCR roads (Storrow, people cutting through the Blue Hills) could be tolled tomorrow. Put a gantry on each side so people using the park don't pay. Roads through parks (93 through Fells, 128 thru Blue HIlls) too, parks are natural barriers to bypassing via local roads.

I sort lawless bicycle behavior into three categories: 1. They genuinely believe they're making the safer option for themselves (Idaho stop and related) 2. They're self-absorbed/oblivious - includes most children 3. They're assholes, but at least they're only on a bike instead of in a car.

Boston should be one of the most livable cities on the planet. But every decision still gets routed through defensive, “how long have you lived here?” parking-first politics. One day I hope we get leadership willing to break that cycle instead of treating the status quo as a political safety jacket.

Mayor Wu could, of course, dramatically enable & accelerate building more homes in Boston to alleviate the City’s budget needs _and_ reduce individual residential taxpayers’ taxes. A net increase in taxpayers in multi-family buildings means better spreading the tax burden.
