Councilors Durkan, Santana Propose Eliminating Off-Street Parking Mandates for Housing In Boston - Streetsblog Massachusetts
The median rent for an apartment in Boston is now about $3,000 per month, but you can rent a parking space downtown for as little as $500 a month.

Gas stations are harder to redevelop, due to site remediation issues and the revenue they still generate. Cities should create incentives in zoning to (ahem) prime the pump for redevelopment of gas stations

Most of the social programs that are routinely dismissed in American politics as "unrealistic" or "too expensive" could have been paid for multiple times over by the cost of this war so far, much less the costs to come. It's never the money.

Around the corner a 3-unit building was sold; one of the owners died last year. Before 2025 it was only legal to have SFH or duplexes here, so you'd get renovations into expensive duplexes. Under new zoning, plan is 10-unit building, meaning 2 units will have subsidized rent for low-income renters.

Based on Wu's BSKY activity, I think we can officially mark her down as no longer progressive and just a generic status-quo-ist Democrat. It's been a bit over a year of uncertainty if she was just worried about Kraft, but it turns out daddy Kraft won the election before it even started

It’s weird that this story doesn’t mention that BTD staff went to the Boston Globe en masse to say they don’t know what she wants, and huge chunks of BTD senior staff have left. Pausing for ‘consensus’ is questionable, but leaving your team in a vacuum is bad leadership.

The bus ride to/from Jackson Square is now fast and predictable because of the center running bus lanes. The traffic is calmer + safer and double parking much decreased. Emergency vehicle passage is swift and unimpeded All of Boston deserves these benefits, particularly where there is no train

So many road safety studies use # of lanes as an independent variable, but (except for road-diet-focused studies) rarely as the dependent variable. Very little lit actually says what all the data shows - “controlling for everything else, the more lanes you have in your road, the more fatalities.”
