…the latter solidified this with the reveal of the Zonai tribe as the magical, highly advanced progenitor race who established Hyrule Kingdom. It feels like too much to be a coincidence to me; and it makes my brain happy.

I've long held high the opinion that an ancient and advanced civilization from the sky, who mastered mysterious magical powers, had established the Kingdom of Hyrule. Signs of this civilization are everywhere in #TwilightPrincess and other games before #BreathoftheWild and #TearsoftheKingdom, but…

So, to honor the official placement of #EchoesOfWisdom, here is my render of the official Zelda timeline. The "Wilds" games are depicted to be "at the end" of a timeline, but *which* timeline has been officially left open to our interpretation. This simply reflects that decision.

And so, with less games in the other two timelines, and ever more entries included on the Downfall timeline… While it pains me to consider (Child Link timeline stan), perhaps #BreathOfTheWild and #TearsOfTheKingdom are more likely to be placed at the end of that timeline.

For the curious. I did this with Blender using the updated models and textures from Skyward Sword NSW. I had to create normal maps for everything because they game doesn’t actually use them(???)

If we look at an orientation accurate version of the Ocarina map, we can see that the rough path from the Temple of Time to the Kokiri Forest matches more closely with the rotated and corrected Skyward map.

Ultimately though, this is still not quite right. We can see Eldin Volcano to the north-northeast outside the Sealed Grounds and to the northeast in Faron Woods. In reality the correct map is probably a mixture. The rough orientation of the correct and rotated map is very close,

but we need to account for the fact that the dive point and cave in Faron leads us to Floria Falls and the Ancient Cistern. Simply rotating Faron in place back 90 degrees counterclockwise is enough to maintain the view of the Great Tree from the Sealed Grounds.

When we look at this, it works pretty well if Necluda was once part of Faron. It should have been but we don’t know for sure. Ash Swamp as the Great Tree basin works wonderfully. The dive spot over Floria Falls works, and Fort Hateno as the Faron viewing platform. It makes me as if modern

Sacred Spring of Wisdom as Skyview Spring works exceptionally well.

If you’re worried about flipping Eldin, don’t be. If we dive in at the Eldin location, we can actually see the the lava flow down the mountain is facing towards the west. That’s right, Eldin actually supports the map with the corrected orientation!

To that end, we need to consider what the lore tells us too. The temple of time was built over the ruins of the sealed temple, specifically the temple of time in castle town in Ocarina of Time. It faces west to east, so let’s flip the corrected map to make that match.

While correct, the placement of the cistern makes no sense. The oaths that connect it to Faron Woods are broken with this move. I simply won’t accept “lost woods magic” to explain it. In the context of this game, it doesn’t matter that much. It matters more if you’re trying to understand the map.

With corrections, the real map should look something like this in terms of rough layout.

To illustrate, here are the maps of Faron Woods and the underwater cave and the path you actually take to get the Ancient Cistern. You can probably spot the issue here. Ancient Cistern should be due west of the tree, not to the south west.

It doesn’t stop there though! The underwater cave leading to the Ancient Cistern is shown to the left of the dive point in Faron Woods. That’s not actually correct either. You enter the underwater serpentine cave under the platform. Faron’s Lair is actually directly beneath the Great Tree

The deep woods are shown as a northern turn on the official map. That cannot be though. For the same mountain to be visible in both maps means that the Deep Woods should be oriented heading west away from the Great Tree, not north.

Faron Woods isn’t much better here. To the south we can see the large mountain and the waterfalls slightly to the west there. The same mountain can be spotted from the deep woods. I’ve included the viewing angle from in-game. For those of you that know the map, you can see what’s happening here…

First things first. The great tree is not actually due west on the map, it shows it to the west-northwest.

This is a pretty map but it bothers me enormously because of the considerable amount of issues in the layout. Let’s take a look 🗺️
