Kudos to all the other authors who stood up and were heard at the debtholders meeting, and who took back their rights and have otherwise made it impossible for Boundless to move forwards. The Unbound/Boundless board of directors do not deserve a second chance.

Really, really, really interesting video from the perspective of what the act is supposed to be "regulating." Like 90% of the Online Safety Act issue is the fact the BBFC doesn't regulate online video. So the gov have done this wackamole approach which is bad for everyone because Ofcom are lazy.

#writingcommunity NEVER, NEVER trust Boundless Publishing, the new incarnation of Unbound. I thought it was bad, and scammy when they moved all IP to a newly set up Boundless before the administrator was called in. But the amount of money owed and fraud is staggering.

Looking forward to paying my mortgage this month by sending my bank an email telling them that, thankfully, John Mitchinson has stepped down from the board at Boundless and isn’t on Backlisted any more. Glad that’s all dealt with.

Just a quick observation on #Unbound. Unbound did not steal author royalties because Unbound is not an independent entity. *People* in Unbound made explicit decisions over and over again to funnel received money towards other projects or cash flow or whatever instead of paying author royalties.

This seems to dance around the question of how income that was raised from book sales was diverted to things other than royalties to the authors. This wasn't a one time slip-up, it seems to be have been a deliberate and systemic policy going back years that management must have been complicit in?

Hey, John. Were author royalties kept in a separate account? What did Wil Harris spend all our royalties on in early 2024 that made you ask him to step back as CEO? Why did the company keep spending like a drunk sailor on things like the magazine and an acquisition in latter 2024?

I said in an interview that I have a lot of empathy for you because you lost your dream, too. But Unbound's sales reports showing my second book as a flop when it actually sold out its print run was unfathomably cruel. Seeing Ingram's data, showing 10x the sales I was paid for, broke my heart.

Unbound hit a red flag with me when I found out they donated to Matt Hancock’s run for Conservative Party Leader. Hearing what they, or Boundless, have done to @dan.nerdcubed.co.uk; and how @mattophobia.ie lost his job… they’re truly evil people. So many lives potentially derailed. Support artists.

Time to clarify something. When authors say “Unbound haven’t paid me” that makes it sound like Unbound had some money, which they used to buy authors’ writing. Unbound had no money. The authors did: we had raised that money. They were holding it in trust. Unbound stole our money.

This is what is so, so baffling. It's not like it was a normal publisher which has to raise the finances from within to produce and market a book. WE DID IT ALL FOR THEM. Us, and our readers. Yet they STILL didn't pay us.

It does make me wonder who else has been paid. There are a number of well known authors who have published with Unbound, and who have not spoken about the plight of others, despite being very keen on fairness in their public profiles. It does beg the question, why.

Pleased for this author but shouldn't Boundless have a plan to pay so many pence in the pound to Unbound's authors/creditors? Rather than paying some in full and others not?

Thank you for this, Ariel. You were bang on when you said it’s the Establishment doing this to us. As a working class author with no media connections, to get my book published was a massive task. Unbound were brilliant up until 2 weeks after publication. Then I might as well have been invisible.

They owe me about £75,000 and never made a single one of their scheduled repayments. My US books are all a sublicense of my Unbound deal, so all US royalties went to them, for them to take a cut and then deliver the rest to me. They collected 18 months from Penguin Random House and gave me $0.
