Those joyful, hope-filled, thrilling, defiant, chockful of facts, demand that you see me books out there matter. Your kid readers (and your big kid readers) need them. So keep writing them. Keep recommending them. Keep sharing them. Keep posting and reviewing them. Be mighty and be loud.

Also read a lot. And not just comics. Go to plays, watch documentaries, learn about stuff. Literally anything you actually read and learn about anything you're interested in will make you a better storyteller. Your little weird obsessions? That's what makes you and your stories interesting.

The people who read our books are kids. They don’t have money to spend. They don’t subscribe to publications that review books. They find us at the library. If the books aren’t there, it’s like they don’t exist. And that makes kids feel like *they* don’t exist.
