I hate that, at least when I was in elementary back in the late 2000s, books in school were marked by “difficulty” and you had to go sequentially. You had to unlock more “advanced” books. It left slow readers giving class presentations on baby picture books while others were doing chapter books

i was such an avid reader of stuff i did not even get CLOSE to understanding as a kid and all it did was make me read more, and ask more questions about the world. there's a concerted effort from almost every consolidated power on this planet to make people less curious!!!!

When I first started college back in 2016, I had a class where we were supposed to research our intended careers. I found some statistics that mechanical engineers started at 65k. I make more than that now! But not taking inflation into account. I make the equivalent of 56k in 2016 dollars today.

Inflation is what happens when there’s more people trying to buy stuff than there is stuff to buy. Maybe somebody is buying all the stuff. Maybe stuff has gotten harder to make.

We need to rethink industry, growth, and so much of the economy, because it is killing us in so many ways, but we also need to start building for resiliency. Wildfires are not going away any time soon, even if my wildest commie dreams come true.
