Love it or hate it? I am definitely a fan of the
#1830s
. I am drawn to its exaggerations and dramatic proportions which appear almost caricature like in drawings until you compare them to the real thing

On September 16, 1890, Louis Le Prince vanished. He was never seen or heard from again. While that is the most well-known thing about him, he had a whole life before that which involved some very intriguing things. Listen here:

Rebecca Smith Pollard published a book of poems to mark the U.S. centennial in 1876, and also a novel with some questionable messages. She also developed a method to teach children to read that was ahead of its time. Listen here:

I have just DNFd yet another debut novel that read like a first draft--often incoherently overwritten, inconsistent characters, agonising pacing. Great idea and obvious talent but in need of a brutal three-page dev letter they didn't get, so now the book will tank & the author will probably give up.

Photos of newly arrived immigrants at Ellis Island. Augustus Sherman took the photos between 1902 and 1920 when he worked as the Chief Registry Clerk. Striking to me how the outfits all look good because they have a discernible silhouette (shape and drape).
