Way too much Austin FC content. Cautiously engaging in USMNT discourse again.
pinned post!
If the length of the Austin FC offseason and MLS playoffs have you feeling unstuck in time, it's understandable. Cosmological timeframes can be overwhelming for the human mind. I've been keeping track of things tho. Here's where we're at. More updates to come.

Sounds like Bukari's departure was not related directly to performance at all.

Kind of also including Nico Estevez in the failure to optimize Bukari.

I think the fan base has actually been pretty split on Bukari. He’s well liked by fans, but his production has been awful for a DP.

Would be taking a loss on him as well as original deal was ~$7M. Hope we got the goods on deck!

I would be comfortable moving on from all 3 DPs because there are better players for the money on the market. Bukari would be a very good TAM player. Not a DP. But this is only a good move if we have a home run lined up to replace him….

Was really rooting for Vancouver but Messi winning MLS Cup is not a bad thing.

I would like to thank the MLS schedulers for their one useful decision this year: putting the MLS Cup final on when my toddler is napping.

What I’m seeing in these conference semifinals is that the league’s biggest stars, Sebastian Berhalter and Lionel Messi, are stepping up to the moment.

I usually find reasons to dislike all the other teams in Austin’s conference but I find myself rooting pretty hard for this Vancouver team.

Huge mistake by Vancouver to take their foot off the gas and let LAFC have the ball in the second half. Just because they are a transition team doesn’t mean they’re bad in possession. And you wiped out their transition game in the first half.

Crazy to think that the MLS playoffs still haven’t concluded. Entire civilizations have risen and fallen since they began.

The outrage is funny because MOST OF THE CURRENT SEASON is played in brutally hot weather in Texas right now.

For all the hand-wringing about how cold it will be (I grew up in a very cold place and watched lots of sports in very cold temps -- I really don't think it's that big of a deal), this is almost certainly going to be a net positive.

You’ve probably heard that the MLS Board of Governors is meeting this week to discuss, among other things, a move to the “European” schedule. My understanding is that there’s no way that happens in 2026, but there’s a very real possibility that it could happen in 2027.

Watching Arsenal - Sunderland rn and you know what makes the sport 10x more boring than set piece goals and long throw ins? Teams parking the bus.

FWIW, Austin fans are like this is because there have been multiple cases where Doyle made incorrect, broad generalizations about a player based on 1 or 2 specific examples that only came up in one specific game. And when called out about it he's always responded like this:

The most nightmare scenario any Austin FC fan could have possibly envisaged last night was Son Heung-min 1-on-1 with Ilie Sanchez inside the box.

Uzuni has generally been more a victim of Borrell’s terrible roster built than anything else. But the best thing this team could do in the offseason is move on from him and find a buyer.

Not that this game is being particularly well refereed anyway but…. Across 80 minutes so far, I’ve seen about 10 fouls in the box that Tori Penso would have called as a penalty in the Open Cup final.

Because of this dumb MLS playoff format Austin has no reason to not absolutely go for it the final 10 minutes. Additional goals mean nothing really.

I know it’s instinctual and probably pretty hard to control etc etc but why tf would you stick your foot at all there BHI. The MOST likely scenario in that situation is an own goal.

There are few moments in the entire history of the interaction of matter in the universe, from the subatomic level up to the galactic, where a square peg has so perfectly aligned with a square hole. Nico Estevez was made for this game.

The broadcast crew completely dismissing that clear push in the back, and not even entertaining the idea that the clear penalty was a clear penalty … is absolutely what I expect from this particular crew.

I watched the extended highlights for all these games and all I can say is that advanced analytics have a very long way to go to make this sport suck. But Arsenal did score two free kick goals (out of their four total) so also the world is also ending.

This entire article is based on data from just 8 weeks of one Premier League season and it's set up the biggest hand-wringing about data in soccer since Jesus Ferreira scored 1 trillion goals against Concacaf opposition in 2022.

My kingdom for a commentary crew who can understand that one team has more possession and chances because the other team is intentionally giving them the ball.
