So one of my goals for the new year is to bring doujin culture to the US. I was thinking of jumping in and starting a publishing/printing imprint right away, but that's big and scary and I'm still researching that--so I'm thinking of taking another approach: community building w/local doujin events.

This is maybe controversial but like…..you CAN actually consciously steer what your style looks like and how you stylize things (figures and environments). Find work that speaks to you and study it/break it down. Then practice stylizing figures and stuff yourself that way.

you can train the eye and the hand to improve the quality of your work but you can NEVER go back to making naive art the same way. appreciate where you are in your journey while you can, and cultivate understanding of the sacrifice that is giving up the part of you that was a "bad artist" before
