Four months later, I've finally finished this book, and I can't recommend it enough –– you must read it. Not an easy read –– there is a reason it took me four months –– but an important one, especially at this historical moment. The audiobook is read by Gessen personally, which I appreciated.

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory. Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

When I got into ultras, I quickly discovered that Barkley was most people's point of reference for long-distance trail running, because of the documentary. That's just an inaccurate comparison, for exactly this reason. Barkley is its own thing #BM100
