I was the production editor on eight of Thomas Perry's novels, including five of the Jane Whitefield series, and he was a delight to work with. Plus, in between actively working on them, I would simply sit and reread lengthy passages for the sheer pleasure of it. He was a master. Farewell to him.

R.I.P. Thomas Perry, author of two of my very favorite thrillers: 1983's Metzger's Dog (which featured a particularly interesting cat) and 1995's Vanishing Act, (which introduced his series star Jane Whitfield).

Spent the afternoon into the evening signing books at @mysteriousbookshop.com (Jay drew a picture in every one) and instead of getting a celebratory drink, I almost fainted as we left, like a haunted Victorian lady. Jay caught me, like a haunted Victorian man.
