As I overthink this some more... One of the challenges in class was that there was this toy poodle who was catching on to everything right away, as he has literally been bred to do. Evie, by comparison, looked less "smart" and more "smart for a whippet." But in fact, she IS smart!

One encouraging thing: at dog class on Saturday, we were trying to train "back up" and Evie was just not getting it in any way shape or form. Got home and realized she already DOES this when she wants me to throw the ball but she's too close, I gesture with the ball and she backs up.
