Bookseller. Chump. Little Richard once asked God to bless me.
It’s been a rough few weeks with a gigantic Jon sized hole in it but we have been fuelled by your kindness and stayed open. Our bestseller so far by miles has been the choice we made with him in mind for next month’s bookgroup.

On Saturday someone complained to me that Len Deighton hadn't written anything new for ages. He's quite old now I think, I said. Even so, they said. Len Deighton is 96.

There is no doubt in my mind that the character which comes the closest to DT is Alfred Jarry's Père Ubu.

Four year olds are not too old for picture books. A beautiful book was turned down by someone in the shop yesterday due to the child being about to start school, and therefore "too old" for picture books. Please don't force children to give up picture books too quickly.

"It takes an admirable level of single-mindedness to write a sequel nobody was clamouring for, to a novel that was almost universally panned." Me on Edward St Aubyn's Parallel Lines, which is actually... pretty good? It's certainly his best novel since At Last - which admittedly isn't saying much.

The Patrick Melrose author returns with a sequel nobody was clamouring for to a novel nobody liked. Weirdly, it’s pretty good
