The far right cannot afford to understand history. Fortunately for them, their followers are insufficiently educated to know that.

There now follows a comment about Kathleen Stock. NE SUTOR ULTRA CREPIDAM the cobbler should not go beyond their last If you are lucky enough to be a published writer, try sticking to things you know about. Otherwise you might come across as a far-right shill chancer.

Spectacularly scathing stuff and I wish more writers of note brought even a tenth of the fire that Arundhati Roy does here. Shouldn't be the exception, should be the rule, and I hope the likes of Margaret Atwood and Stephen King and Zadie Smith are feeling some fucking shame for not saying this too.

As I read Waugh's Sword of Honour, I recognise that a) comic fiction must be especially difficult to write and b) even more so when it's tied to a specific time/place. Makes me see

who is great anyway, in a new light.

Listening to Scofield jamming with Medeski Martin & Wood. In one sense, it's nothing. But done so well, it becomes something.

Funny how the mind works. I find myself turning against Brideshead BUT that's to do with the sentiments (feudal nostalgia etc?). That's not what I enjoyed about it anyway, though. You just can't argue with the writing!

If you go back 900 years, then a very high percentage of the people who read this post will also be descended from this man's ancestor. I'm almost certainly descended from him. Why don't I get a seat in the House of Lords?

The Trump White House is gaslighting us again, this time over the massacre of scores of Iranian children by the U.S. military. Despite clear evidence of this, they are insisting that Iran bombed its own school. That’s a lie. My write-up in the replies.

Now of course I am watching the old series of Brideshead again. It's too slow! And the music kills it stone dead. Who did the music? I bet it's Carl Davis. Deadly dull.
