I'm getting some pushback on my post about banning smartphones. Lot of it is "this is a moral panic don't ban stuff it'll be fine.' A key thing to understand here though is many young people themselves don't like what phones are doing to them. This is different to rock music or video games etc.

āInfiniteā in maths and ādefiniteā in not maths are related in that definite stems from ābounded within limitsā (think ādefinedā) and infinite means unbounded without limits. So now youāll never spell ādefiniteā incorrectly again. Youāre welcome. š

One of the many great points made by
@pepsmccrea.bsky.social
at
#REd24
yesterday was that in the dark days many of us were enthusiastically doing brain gym / VAK / discovery learning but we were unable to identify that it wasn't a good idea. Evaluating whether teaching is effective is hard.

The key to a successful INSET goes beyond the content, as it relies on "what happens tomorrow?" You've introduced your shiny new idea. Ok. How are you going to ensure it is implemented? How are you going to sustain your focus? >
