I cannot think of any way in which the DFE can frame expectations of communication with parents that will be anything but worse than what schools do now by having their own systems and expectations. At best it will be the same, but centralising creates unintended consequences.

Just been reminded of when my kids stayed with my Mum and on their return saw a Union Jack, then describing it as a “Scottish flag with a cross on it”.

Important again to recognise that my wife and I can be in the same session (with Becky Francis) at #rED25 because of the free crèche that is available. This is unusual and is an example of genuine inclusion.

Relieved @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social remains. I’ve been critical of much and remain worried about the schools bill and curriculum, but changing would’ve been worse. We e seen good leadership on attendance, behaviour and SEND, all of which need it because they can be unpopular.

I have had the privilege of working as a national behaviour advisor with both Jayne Lowe and Tom Bennett, and I literally would have no-one above them in my shortlist for the new attendance and behaviour ambassadors. An excellent couple of appointments from the SOS.

I took my three eldest kids (15/12/9) to Reading Festival yesterday. I last went in the late 90s. Some observations: - the median age is 16 - the modal age is 16 - the mean age is 16.2 - the range of ages is 0-48. I am 48. But there are few people below 15 or over 17. - it wasn’t very rocky.

My daughter was up at 7.30 for the 6th time this holiday. Me: Why are you up? Her: It's a work day. Turns out her and her friends have 15 work days this holiday where they are doing 6 hours of revision (and a bit of summer work set by school) - separately but holding each other to account.

A task for non-teachers (or teachers): Consider this idea then research why it is an awful idea. Ask an expert for tips if stuck.

For mental health and a good start to the holidays, teachers should limit themselves to a single bottle of wine over the first couple of days. Large 2yo for scale.
