RIP Todd Snider. One of the greats, an unheralded songwriters' songwriter and a genuine character. Loved and proselytized for almost as long as I've been a music critic. A guy not only influenced by Prine/Kristofferson/Jerry Jeff but he seemed to come out of the same world.

I bought this collection a while back and started it the other day: it's *so* much fun, often hilarious and genuinely spooky at the very same time, and with such an eye for its locale, the Canadian prairies, and those who live there. 'X-files on VHS' could have been written just for me. Loving it.

another email claiming it can sell my books to millions, another text declaring I owe the government money, another phone call pretending to be my bank in distress, another passing Cybertruck weeping some kind of fluid into churned snow - maybe it knows its maker. scams rule everything around me.

You know what's urgently needed? Basic software. Reliable database systems, accessible interfaces, privacy oriented design. It's super mundane stuff like asking, "how can software make your life better", not telling people "this is how software is going to solve all your problems." Because it won't.

Sir, the economy is not great Neolib: āIāve got this. Lay off 40,000 people who provide services to Canadians who need it mostā How⦠will that help? Neolib: āIt will save us money to buy bombs, and invest in technology that will cause mass layoffsā Ah yes, of course. Thatāll fix it.
