I’m an amateur digital “artist”, comic inker and colorist. I’m not great but I’m learning. I sometime re-ink or re-color pages. Occasionally I’ll think a sketch of my own is worthy of being posted. One thing you’ll never see on my page is ai. This is an example of a recolored Ditko Spider-Man page.

This is five years old but does a good job of explaining his wealth then. Watch and double the visual.

Happy 89th Birthday to
#OurPalSal
Buscema who was born January 26, 1936. The best penciler and inker to ever grace comics imho. I hope you have many more happy healthy years!

I’ve learned that life is about the journey, not the destination. Generative ai is about the exact opposite. We as a human race are losing the journey and will be worse off as a species because of it. Deep thinking through things as a result of experience will become a quaint thing of the past.

Sal Buscema went through an extraordinary renaissance in the 80s after being told his work was "old fashioned". He started studying younger artists and began experimenting with page designs and rendering styles. His Spectacular Spider-Man run is superb.

That’s why we need to make art for ourselves. Two things AI can’t take away from us: 1. The enjoyment of creativity. 2. The deeper meaning behind human created art.

Remember: It’s always more important to identify actors from their previous roles than it is to watch the current movie on your screen.

The fact that the famous painting I’m using to illustrate the point is censored just further shows how we are being controlled by these platforms. In what world would this tiny low res image of “Liberty Leading the People” be considered “nudity” and blocked?

I don’t know if you remember, but the Internet was once believed to be the great equalizer. Power taken from the hands of the rich / corporations and returned to the people. With the advent of social media, we just handed that power back to new corporate overlords. 🤦🏻♂️ How do we take it back again?

Great article. I guess I’m getting old but it makes me realize how much I miss the pre-internet world. (The irony of typing this on a website isn’t lost on me.) It had such possibility but has ended up being the worst possible outcome. I’m afraid AI will make things exponentially worse.

Three more I'm keeping despite the big-sell off. These were my favorite Luke figures, which probably has something to do with them being his two suits in my favorite SW film, ESB, & R4 just had a great look.

All you newbies drawing their first comic and haven't printed their comic before: 300 dpi, CMYK colours, bleed and safety, 0 0 0 100 K black text on a separate layer. Make sure you have all of these on all of your comics files, otherwise you'll end up like me having to fix 660 pages of my webcomic

Pencil sketch by Dale McKeown Hulk vs. Captain America. Colors by me. For this one, I took Dale’s pencils and used them to create the shades of color. IMO, this would be the best way to create a comic from an artist like McKeown whose pencils are extremely difficult to ink.
