I love FireRed and LeafGreen and I'm glad they'll be on the Switch, however I'm not looking forward to the almost inevitable discussion about how they are "objectively superior and replacements for Gen 1" since Pokemon RBY aren't also being added right now.

not enough people treat video games as unavoidably art sure there are really smart people talking about the really artsy games, and huge fans hanging on to every piece of lore in their favorite series, but not enough people apply literary analysis and historical context to like.. super monkey ball

Made this chart back in 2024 on how I'd personally categorize the different Sonic "eras". Lots of these games have crossover with different sections, like how SA2 I consider to be both the last "Classic" and first "Modern" Sonic game.

Went through the trilogy again on Genesis (and CD on the remake's decomp which I think is reasonable), and actually I don't think this. Sonic CD is just the one game not negatively impacted by its remake in Origins (w/ Ultrafix and other mod fixes). CD's still a phenomenal game though.

Replayed the classic Sonic games back to back and Sonic CD might actually be the best one.

Got Sonic Origins on sale and downloaded the Ultrafix mod assuming it would restore the speed caps, but it doesn't in Anniversary Mode which is a bummer. Thankfully I can still enable them with cheats for 1 & 2, but since you access them on the title screens I can't in Story Mode which sucks.
