A random person shouted out “You have beautiful hair!” as I cycled to work this morning. Considering that I haven’t been to the hairdresser in 6 months and get scads of targeted ads for mature ladies about hair loss, I’ve decided to allow myself to feel good about being uncut, frumpy and free.

I have over €4k in overdue invoices out right now, have followed up with clients this week, and still have not been paid. If it’s not clear, my freelance income is how I pay bills and buy groceries. There is a kind of alternate reality to weekends, where I dread the impending gap in responses.

A book proposal for a graphic novel is a slog, let there be no doubt. I was reminded of @annelamott.bsky.social and her “bird by bird” advice while working on this particularly feathery passage this weekend, making my mark, panel by panel. 🐦 ✍️

Pitch: someone calls an anonymous tip into ICE about a house full of illegal immigrants. ICE starts watching the house and decides to do a night raid. The immigrants are all vampires. The vampires called in the tip.

I was working on two comics projects last week and used that template for both. It’s my second stage of early brainstorming. I like how they are easier to file away sequentially, especially when you have a lot on your mind!

A rejected cover sketch for @newyorker.com. This was my second pitch and first time getting a response, so I’ll count that as a win! 📱 Inspired by a couple of screen junkies seen on the streets of Chelsea. My title: “The night is still young.” Keep it real, lovebirds.

Thanks for the enthusiasm about my latest screenprint! Here’s a short video that should give you more insight into my process.

I’ve been busy with a challenging screenprinting commission. I reached out to other printmakers for tips, and they were so helpful. It made me think about how in solitary professions - illustrating, writing, cartooning - we tend to hole up and take on all the burden ourselves. Rising tides, y’all!
