Here’s to 2026

Rang in New Years with my recent tradition (to avoid getting sad at my loneliness) of playing a short narrative indie game. 2023 was Sayonara Wild Hearts 2024 was No Longer Home This year was Venba, a lovely visual novel about Tamil heritage, first-generation immigrant families & the power of food.

I might do a Top Films of 2025 list in late January once I've filled in some gaps and if I have the motivation, but honestly it's been such a shit, disappointing year for the medium that I currently have a Top 6 of stuff I loved and that's about it.

If I have to read one more thread/comment chain about how long TV takes to produce now relative to number of episodes, whilst simultaneously insisting they're all short enough to not contain any "filler," I am gonna physically drag myself into the Internet and chew the wires to ribbons like a rat.

RIP to Rob Reiner and his wife. Reiner was one of the masters of the crowd pleaser, crafting the kind of films that are somehow both rare to see in contemporary cinemas and yet endlessly copied. This is such a brutal and tragic loss.
