I know I complain about AI a lot but another trend I HATE are these new releases of classic novels with AI covers. Like, the book was written in 1875 and most Victorian paintings are free use, you can slap one on the cover for free and it will look 100% better without killing the planet.

I hate AI in general but a new trend I especially dislike are all these AI "cute/funny pet videos." Like the point of a funny pet video is that it's an actual animal actually doing something funny. Remove the real animal and it ceases to be funny.

Just cried all the way through Guillermo del Toro's Pinnochio. Particularly liked that the carnival barker and the Podestà were treated as villains of equal weight with arcs that paralleled each other throughout the film. A reminder that capitalism and fascism are two sides of the same coin.

Once you get a chance to see Nightmare Alley (2021) in black and white it's honestly kinda astonishing how ass it looks in color.

Re-watched Cabaret (1972) and suddenly realized that Joel Grey's performance as the Emcee seriously delivered one of the most terrifying characters of 70s cinema.

My God, I am crying. I had the incredible good fortune of discovering Ms. Yarbro's work last autumn and now she's one of my favorites. Farewell to one of the true greats. If you've never read her, do yourself a favor and look her up.
