On my way to a clown themed birthday party today

I was supposed to have my new video out yesterday but have been fighting copyright issues on it with each test upload I do for over a day now. Dealing with these issues has unfortunately in my case become way more frequent in the last year which has been frustrating.

I wish I loved The Mummy more. Some good in there, but ultimately a worse Evil Dead than his actual Evil Dead. It’s very cold in a way that makes the whole thing lack the human element that made that one great.

I had to take a break because I got covid so it took me a while to read it, but I finished Cabal and I think it’s my favorite Barker work. I really wish he had followed up on this with another entry into this world exploring the implications of the ending, fantastic book.

I had some really good used bookstore finds this week

I’m currently working on a production schedule for shooting the rest of this movie which I’m going to be doing over the course of the next year, and am kicking myself now for having nearly 60 different locations in this thing.

I was watching In Praise Of Shadow's video on the Devil's Rejects and him interrupting his own analysis to say that Bill Mosely is hot hit me like a truck in the best way possible. 🤣

Desperate Living getting a restoration makes me really happy to see. Criminally overlooked movie in Water’s filmography (and one of his best) because it’s simply always just been kind of difficult to watch. Love that they are doing this.

YouTube’s content system is so goofy and broken, this email is because of me talking about a character in a movie that commits suicide in a video from a year and a half ago.

I didn’t say it in the video itself, but yesterday’s video is actually the first part of a two parter that I’m doing that are both centered around bad things that happened to Andy Warhol. I’ll be shooting the second one pretty soon and it should be around in a couple weeks.

Reading Cabal makes me sad that a certain subgenre of horror where a weird town that’s not on any maps that lies hidden somewhere in the vastness of the unknown lands of the rural Americas has mostly stopped existing because of phones and the internet.

I haven’t gotten to play Requiem yet so I don’t know how they handle these sections in it, but Evil Within 2 clearly showed that you can go semi-open world and do interesting things with it with horror. It’s one of the best horror games ever made because it’s so different.

It’s funny how the people who are die hard supporting Scream right now are the same ones who are killing it long term. Treating it like it’s a religion or a big cult is off putting for people with normal minds that haven’t been poisoned by fandom. It comes across as deeply weird.

Well, I’ve decided that I’m actually in the mood to go through the book it’s based on, so now reading:

I rewatched Nightbreed again this week and I wish that Barker had made more films. It’s not even particularly what he was best at so I understand not focusing at it, but the back to back combo of Hellraiser and this have such a feeling to them that doesn’t exist in a lot of work.

It’s very funny that Bloody Disgusting was doing daily promo tweets for weeks for Scream 7, never acknowledging the ongoing conversation around the film in a significant way, and then dropping a review today giving it two out of five stars.

Not surprising at all. Like I’ve said before, being in the room with him it was clear that he was trying to drain as much money from his situation as he could before the ship fully sank. Glad that Magazine Dreams flopped which kind of made a desperate move like this inevitable.

YouTube’s search function becoming completely useless dogshit makes videos like the one I’m doing right now where I have to pull a hundred plus clips from stuff way more tedious than it should be. Trying to find s specific thing there now is a nightmare.

V for v excited.

My next video was supposed to be out this week. At this point I’m not so sure I’ll hit that deadline, but I’m excited to share it soon. This is the longest I’ve ever worked on a single video, I started it this time last year and I’ve finally gotten to where I feel good about it.

I saw an old rare Sinister Cinema VHS this past weekend. This one was for 1939’s The Gorilla. I love the comic/pulp style cover layout and design that they used on all their slipcases.

The rest of the movie is just okay, but the opening section to Wilczyca (1983) where a nobleman has to bury his wife who he believes to be a vampire is some of the coolest use of gothic folk horror that’s ever been done. I think about imagery from this section all the time.

I spent some time yesterday wallpapering my set walls in newspaper pages to film my next video, only to come back like an hour later to find that they had all fallen down while I was gone. Going to have to try again and hope they don’t come down while I’m shooting.

That trailer for Townfall has me the most excited for Silent Hill that I’ve been since they brought it back a few years ago. Love that clear New England/Lovecraft/Dead and Buried kind of harbor vibe they are working with here.

One last one and I’ll lay off it for a while, but there’s so many people who talk about horror for a living who are so antithetical to joy, art, and life itself that it’s truly embarrassing for the genre.

I can’t stop thinking about how much I was into Return to Silent Hill. It’s legitimately great. They shot the hell out of it, and it will probably be among my favorite 2026 horror movies at the end of the year.

I can’t lie, it bothers me that different websites that act like journalistic horror sources in reality serve as unquestioning hype men. Reporting on new Scream posters, trailers, and featurettes while totally ignoring that Scream is promoting gambling, AI, and other bullshit.

Really cool to see the Pink Narcissis 4K restoration get a new physical release. Bidgood was so great and never got his flowers or had the career he deserved.

In their developer diary video they talk about sourcing real images of gore as reference for making this, I’ve heard this is not uncommon now in games. This to me is a strange and unnecessary/unethical thing that has risen within the push for graphical fidelity.

Restarted Silent Hill 3. That opening mall sequence really is one of the best ever. Probably my favorite location in the franchise.

I was on a walk just now and was going down the train tracks and I found this weird single puzzle piece on the tracks that didn’t have an image printed on it.

I know it’s early to speak on it, but I spent January finalizing a draft of the screenplay for the feature I’ve been working on. Going to start doing more edits on it soon. I’ve got a partial cast already and hope to finally begin shooting in the next few months.

Del Toro said this this week which is something I’ve expressed in the past. I still feel like horror is in a strange place culturally despite the movies doing fine financially. The amount of conservatives continuing to quietly normalize themselves within genre spaces has impacts.
